A 30-year-old man was arrested on Good Friday for the murder of a man at the KwaMashu Hostel recently. Sthembiso Biyela (33) and his girlfriend were attacked while they were in their house at KwaMashu hostel. The Inanda Cluster Task Team and Inanda TRT Unit made a breakthrough when they made the arrest after the members followed up information about the suspect’s whereabouts.
According to provincial police spokesman, Cpt Thulani Zwane, Biyela was at his house with his girlfriend at Jabula Road, in the proximity of the KwaMashu hostel, when they were attacked by unknown suspects. It is alleged that the suspects opened fire, wounding both the victims. They were rushed to the local clinic where Sthembiso died of his injuries. His girlfriend was later transferred to hospital for treatment.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni thanked the detectives from the Inanda Cluster and Inanda Tactical Response Team for their hard work that led to the arrest of the suspect. “The team will work around the clock to make sure that the outstanding suspects are arrested and face the long arm of the law,” she said.
The arrested suspect appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court facing murder and attempted murder charges. A case of murder and attempted murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation. The motive for the suspects attack is still unknown.
