A 32-year-old suspect was arrested for the kidnapping of a child belonging to their landlord in Mount Moriah, recently.
It is believed that on Monday, October 22, the complainant alleges that she had left her two children with her tenants and had gone to work.
On the same day, she arrived home from work at 5:30pm and found the gate to her premises was unlocked.

She then proceeded to the house of the tenants and found the house unlocked as well. The tenants were nowhere to be found and neither were her children.
The five-year-old child was brought to the complainant by her neighbour.
The complainant then tried to contact her tenants and could not get a hold of them.
Later the same day, the victim received a message from her tenant stating that the younger child was with him and the complainant should not contact the police and inform them that he had taken the child.
Communications officer of Phoenix SAPS, Cpt Louise Naidoo, said, “The complainant, however, reported the matter and a case of kidnapping was registered and handed to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for investigations.”
The FCS police officers, acting on information, managed to trace the suspect in the Nongoma area on Saturday, October 27. The two-year-old child was also found safe and unharmed and handed over to the mother.
The suspect was arrested and appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on Monday, October 29.
The accused was remanded in custody with no bail and will reappear in court on Thursday, November 8.
