STROOP to screen at UK government’s Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference

The documentary tells of the ongoing poaching of the rhinoceros.

STROOP: Journey into the Rhino Horn War – the shocking and touching feature length documentary that tells of the ongoing poaching of the rhinoceros and the trade in its coveted horn is set to be shown at the UK government’s international conference on the Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT), which takes place in London on October 11 and 12.

The conference will bring together global leaders to help eradicate illegal wildlife trade and better protect the world’s most iconic species from the threat of extinction.

STROOP will form part of the IWT programme and will be screened to delegates.

Bonné de Bod, who produces and fronts the film said, “We see this conference as an ideal platform to show the film to the right people who hold change-making positions.”

This could hopefully lead to further dialogue on key findings in the film. A spokesperson for the event said, “The 2018 London conference is an opportunity to build on previous efforts, address the underlying issues that facilitate it, and make steps to tackle this criminal trade.”

One of the aims at the conference is to strengthen international partnerships across borders and beyond government and focus on increasing collaboration across continents to tackle IWT-associated illicit financial flows and corruption, strengthen networks of IWT law enforcement experts, helping frontline countries to coordinate across the trade routes and use levers of influence across illicit trade routes, through increased engagement with the private sector, NGOs, academia and bringing in new partners.

The documentary has already won rave reviews and picked up a number of awards at the various US film festivals at which it has been screened.

It will make its European premiere when it opens the prestigious Rotterdam Film Festival on October 24 and will premiere in South Africa in February 2019 after its film festival run overseas.
