An Esenembe man was left in a critical condition after he was brutally stabbed in his room during a robbery in upper Tongaat, on Saturday morning.
It is alleged that a suspect broke into the victim’s room by breaking one of the windows, while he was sleeping. Once in the room, the suspect attacked the victim by stabbing him several times in his abdomen.
The Esenembe resident suffered extensive blows to his abdomen. The piercing cuts left him bleeding excessively, leaving his intestines exposed.
The 52-year-old man was then robbed of his cellphone and wallet. Responding to the emergency, paramedics were dispatched to the scene at a compound on a farm, where they found the wounded man in a puddle of his own blood.
The medics managed to stabilise the victim at the scene.
The critical patient was then transported to a local hospital. The suspect is said to have fled the scene in an unknown direction.
Prem Balram of Reaction Unit South Africa said that Reaction officers conducted a thorough search of the suspect. “The suspect fled the scene and no arrests were made yet,” Balram added. Police are investigating further.
