A 20-year-old man was arrested following an incident involving a stolen bank card at the Silver Sands Shell Garage in Brookdale, Phoenix, on Wednesday.
It is alleged by the complainant that at about 5pm, he was standing in the queue at the ATM at the garage while an unknown man was in front of him. When the said male had finished at the ATM, the complainant went to use the machine.
Suddenly, the man who was in front of the victim stepped back and told him that he was going to assist him. The complainant refused his help.
The man then pushed the complainant and pulled the victim’s bank card out of the machine and ran away.
The victim then noticed a police vehicle drive pass and stopped it.
He informed the officers about what had transpired and the police then went in search of the suspect who was apprehended on Northern Drive.
Communications officer of Phoenix SAPS, Cpt Louise Naidoo said, “The suspect was found in possession of the complainant’s bank card. The suspect was subsequently arrested and detained at the Phoenix police cells. He will be charged at a later stage and sent to court. Enquiries will be done in linking the suspect to other similar cases.”
