The recent visit by Swami Premananda Puri hosted by the Woodview Hindu Maha Sabha was a resounding success.
Event co-ordinator, Rajen Sudama, said the impressive turnout at the event and Swamiji’s discourses and bhajans have left him humbled.
“Months of hard work, a dedicated organising team and kind sponsorships from well-wishers culminated in the event going beyond our expectations. We are of the belief that visiting swamis and pundits receive all the pomp and glory and are expensive to bring down while our local swamis are neglected. Hence, the reason to engage one such swami, who is the spiritual head and founder of the Ramakrishna Dharma based in Lenasia,” said Sudama.
Among the dignitaries present were Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, Ishwar Ramlutchman of the Sivananda Peace Pillar Mission, Ram Maharaj and various public figures. Guests left inspired and motivated with the spiritual nourishment.
All were treated to a sumptuous vegetable briyani and prasadam prepared and served by volunteers.
In his vote of thanks, organiser, Richard Pillay, thanked all who helped make swamiji’s visit a success.
He thanked the dignitaries for accepting their invitation and gracing the function. He also thanked swamiji for coming out and imparting his wisdom, discourses and melodious bhajans to all who took the time to attend.
Sudama concluded that the Woodview Hindu Dharma Sabha has set the precedent of engaging South African swamis and pundits. He also encouraged other temples to do the same.
