A heart wrenching story of six-year-old Verulam child, Zarae Sookoo who has been diagnosed with leukemia, desperately needs your help.
To help the brave young child fight back the cancer ravaging her body, the KwaZulu-Natal Foundation, a local NPO will be hosting a motorshow, to raise much-needed funds to assist the child with her medical expenses.
In mid May, shortly before her sixth birthday, Zare was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia by specialist pediatric hematologists at ‘Kids Can Hematology’ in Riverhorse Valley Business Park.
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia is the most common type of cancer among children. The disease starts in the child’s bone marrow which is the spongy centre of bones where new blood cells are grown.
The leukemia cells grow at a highly accelerated rate and crowd the bone marrow. As a result, the marrow is unable to produce normal blood cells.
This form of cancer has a number of symptoms including bone or joint pain, a loss of appetite, constantly feeling tired, bruising and bleeding more easily, fever, pale skin, swollen lymph nodes at the neck, underarms or groin and being far more at risk of infections.
Zarae has been placed in hospital for an indefinite amount of time and due to the increased risk of her contracting infections, isn’t allowed visitors. The young child will miss six months of school at the least.
Ashen Ramadhar of the KwaZulu-Natal Foundation, said, “When Zarae’s mother approached us, we were greatly saddened by the little girl’s circumstances. The fundraiser which will be called Baby Zarae Motorshow is designed to generate funding to aid the Sookoo family with medical expenses for the young child.”
The event is to be an exciting day for car enthusiasts and will feature a number of competitions including show and shine, limbo, a sound off and a dyno challenge.
The motorshow will be held on June 16 an 10am at Flamboyant Drive Sports field in Isipingo Hills. If you require more information, contact the KwaZulu-Natal Foundation on 079-886-2838.
