Phoenix pensioner’s R151, 000 bill reversed

Cllr Jonathan Annipen together with Mr Naidoo of Phoenix.

Phoenix resident, Mr L Naidoo, was in disbelief when he opened a bill to find the shocking figure of R151, 000 due to incorrect metre capturing and the new Revenue Management System discrepancies.

Being a pensioner, Naidoo was naturally unable to pay this debt and contacted Minority Front councillor, Jonathan Annipen, for assistance.

Annipen took on the case and contacted the revenue department to resolve the matter.

Speaking of the case, Cllr Annipen said, “This is becoming a common feature as the Revenue Management System is a system that is not fully functional. Luckily, Mr Naidoo came to us and we were able to follow up on this matter.”

He explained that he is glad that people are becoming more aware of their bills and that they are incorrect.

“I encourage residents to follow up on discrepancies and ensure that all charges reflect on their monthly bills,” he concluded.
