Guard assaulted by suspect in Verulam

An alleged theft suspect was apprehended by Reaction Unit South Africa after he assaulted a security guard in Verulam, recently.

According to a report issued by RUSA, officers were alerted to the assault in progress on Russom Street in Verulam. The caller informed the reaction officers that the suspect was in the process of stealing from the property, when he was approached by the guard, who attempted to apprehend him.

The suspect assaulted the guard and fled the scene. The caller provided a clothing description and the direction in which the suspect had fled.

While responding to the call, reaction officers noticed a suspect, fitting the description provided. In an attempt to evade arrest, the suspect removed his T-shirt and attempted to ‘blend in’ with pedestrians.

Reaction officers pursued and apprehended him. The 30-year-old man confirmed that he was in the process of stealing tiles and scrap metal from the property when he was spotted by the guard.
