Verulam Secondary pupil honoured at NSC awards ceremony

Zakkiyya Hoosen was placed eighth in the NSC matric examinations in KZN.

Zakkiyya Hoosen of Verulam Secondary was elated when she received a call to attend the prestigious NSC awards ceremony at the ICC which honoured the top public school pupils in KZN.

Hoosen was placed eighth in KZN and second in the Pinetown District after she achieved seven distinctions with an aggregate of 95 percent.

The top achievers of Verulam Secondary School celebrated their brilliant results, last week.

She thanked the dedicated band of teachers at Verulam Secondary, her parents, family and friends for their support and prayers during her matric year.

She attributes her success to God’s grace and hard work. She added that in order to do well, one needs to be well rested, calm and focused.

Zakkiyya will pursue her dream of studying medicine at Wits University. Meanwhile, Verulam Secondary School achieved a brilliant 96.92 percent pass rate with a bachelor’s pass of 58.46 percent and a diploma pass of 34.36 percent. The class of 2017 recorded a whopping 235 subject distinctions.
