Passenger assaulted, thrown out of taxi in Verulam


A man was injured after he was allegedly assaulted with a golf club inside a taxi, in the Verulam area, on Monday night.

The Reaction Unit South Africa team were dispatched to Umdloti Beach near the Waterloo entrance after receiving several calls from motorists, who reported a man lying on the road.

Upon arrival, it was established that the victim was a passenger in the taxi. After he was assaulted, he was thrown out of the vehicle.

The head of the golf club broke off and was found next to the injured man. The taxi then sped off in the direction of Verulam, leaving the injured man on the road.

Witnesses could not provide reaction officers with a description of the taxi or a registration number. The victim suffered a head injury and was treated at the scene by paramedics from the Provincial Ambulance Service before being transported to hospital.
