The Phoenix Drug Task Team conducted a clean-up operation in the Westham area, on Friday, which was aimed at eliminating the drug trade in the police precinct and due to this, managed to arrest three suspected drug dealers.

The suspects, who are between the ages of 25 and 39, are expected to appear in the Phoenix Magistrate’s Court today. A total of 1010 mandrax tablets, ecstasy, 319 heroin capsules and 300 litres of cocaine were seized.
Col Thembeka Mbhele of the South African Police Services said the suspects were detained at the Phoenix SAPS. The Community Policing Forum, religious leaders and the local community assisted police in recovering the drugs and arresting the suspects.

They also picketed outside the suspects’ place of residences with placards, voicing their concerns about drug trade in the area and discouraging youth against drug abuse. Their involvement in the operation is commended and shows that the community is determined to fight criminal activities this festive season.
