Gwala’s Farm murderer arrested

Tongaat police have arrested a 36-year old man for a murder which occurred at Gwala’s Farm. According to Tongaat corporate communications officer, Cpt Patrick Ngwane, on Friday, September 29, at about 11:20am, Tongaat SAPS received a report of a person who died at Chief Albert Luthuli Hospital.

He said on arrival, it was established that a 35-year-old died as a result of injuries sustained while he was assaulted at Gwala’s Farm.

“A murder docket was opened and the body was taken to the Government Mortuary for post mortem report,” said Cpt Ngwane. A docket was then assigned to Det Cpt VJ Yaka to conduct an investigation.

To solve the case, Cpt Yaka worked around the clock, obtaining statements from witnesses, collecting evidence and the information was followed. The investigation revealed that the victim was assaulted with a stick and sustained injuries on the head and body.

Cpt Ngwane said detectives continued to work tirelessly tracing the suspect and eventually managed to arrest the suspect for murder on the very same day. The murder suspect was detained at Tongaat SAPS cells and later charged accordingly in the Verulam Magistrate Court and was remanded in custody.

The station commander, Col Santha Moodley, commended the detectives for their quick response and sterling work that led to the arrest of the murder suspect. “This arrest will serve as a strong warning to the perpetrators of crime,” said Moodley.
