Cpt Ngwane explained that vigilantism refers to any person who takes the law into his or her own hands. “This also refers to a person who illegally punishes an alleged lawbreaker, or participates in groups which deal out extra-legal punishment to an alleged lawbreaker. It is illegal to participate in vigilantism and it is punishable by law. We encourage our community members to join forces with the police by joining Sector Forum or participate in Community Policing Forum or become Police Reservists,” said Cpt Ngwane.
