Phoenix family survives house break-in ordeal

A Redberry Park family is still traumatised after a robbery ordeal which occurred on Wednesday.

According to the female victim, she was asleep with her family when they heard a loud bang on the sliding door at approximately 1:30am.

When she woke up to inspect where the noise was emanating from, she noticed a man banging the sliding door with an iron rod.

It is alleged that the same man, who was in possession of a torch and a firearm, then suddenly gained entry into the house and fired a shot at the victim’s grandmother, hitting her in the left thigh.

Before escaping, the suspect allegedly picked up something from the floor which the victim suspects could be the cartridge from the bullet.

Phoenix SAPS communications officer, Cpt Louise Naidoo, confirmed the incident and said the suspect fled with nothing else with him.

She said the victim did not see the suspect as he was wearing a balaclava on his head. Cpt Naidoo said a case of house break-in and attempted murder are being investigated.
