Drumming up support for Essence Festival Durban 2017

Organisers of the Essence Festival are confident that this year’s event will surpass all expectations and will once again become the most talked about event in Durban.

At a colourful media launch on Wednesday at the Joint Cafe, South Beach, organisers say that they are pulling out all stops to make this year’s event bigger and better. KwaZulu-Natal born actress, Nomzamo Mbatha played host at the media launch.

September will see the return of the festival to Durban, under the theme – ‘Firing Africa with Inspiration.’ The first phase line up of the festival was announced and it includes: SA’s hip hop star Nasty C, Joyous Celebration, Gospel ID finalists, appearances by Somizi Mhlongo and talks by Bishop TD Jakes and renowned Reverend Al Sharpton.

The international festival brings the best of local and international talent to Durban ICC from September 26 – October 1.

Last year, the festival drew over 60,000 attendees from across the country, injecting over R230 million into the province’s GDP.

After formalities for the launch concluded, media representatives and guests were treated to deliciously prepared food.
