Father and son arrested for house break-in

Three suspects have been arrested for breaking into the home of a police detective and stealing items valued at an estimated R50, 000, recently.

Local security company, Reaction Unit South Africa made the successful arrested and have stated that the suspects were detained at the Verulam SAPS.

A report issued by RUSA indicated that the items stolen from the detective’s home included about 150 pet fish, generators, fishing rods and chairs. The suspects were tracked down in Phoenix and Verulam.

Following the house break-in, the detective reportedly contacted RUSA for assistance and after a lengthy investigation, found that a 40-year-old suspect was involved. Reaction officers tracked six of the suspect’s previous residences between Phoenix and Verulam and eventually located him in a vehicle, travelling in Brindhaven.

Officers stopped the vehicle and questioned him. During an interview, it is believed that the suspect informed officers that he gained entry into the home with the assistance of his son and a family friend, who are both 18-years-old.

Reaction officers proceeded to the suspect’s home in Verulam and recovered all the stolen items. The fish had died while being kept in a fish tank at the suspect’s home. Officers thereafter proceeded to the Verulam CBD where they arrested the family friend. The third suspect was also arrested in Verulam. Investigations are ongoing.
