Taxi driver shot and robbed in Verulam

Upon arrival, medics treated the victim for a gunshot wound to his thigh before transporting him to hospital in a stable condition.

A 43-year-old taxi driver was shot during a robbery in Everest Heights, Verulam on Sunday. On the day of the incident, the RUSA team were called out to the intersection of Himalaya and Inca Drive after receiving a call from a member of the public, requesting assistance for the injured man.

Upon arrival, medics treated the victim for a gunshot wound to his thigh before transporting him to hospital in a stable condition.

It is alleged that the taxi had stopped at the intersection to drop off the last two passengers. One of the passengers allegedly withdrew a firearm and demanded the day’s takings from the driver.

The victim jumped out of the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot when he was shot. Both suspects robbed him off an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene in an unknown direction. A search for the suspects was conducted, however, they still remain at large.
