House break-in suspect assaulted with sjambok

Mob justice was meted out a house break-in suspect in the Verulam area, recently. The arrested suspect was tied to a tree and severely beaten by the angered residents.

According to reports issued by Reaction Unit Africa, they received information that a suspect had been apprehended by the public. When they made their way to the scene, officers found the suspect tied to a tree. He had sustained open cuts to his body after being whipped with a sjambok.

It is alleged that the suspect was in the process of breaking into a home when he was spotted by neighbours. The suspect fled the property but was pursued by residents in the area who eventually caught up with him on Misson Road. A large crowd gathered at the scene and began assaulting the suspect. The suspect was placed under arrest and handed over to the SAPS for further investigation.
