A 31-year-old nurse was found hanged in her bedroom by her four-year-old son, yesterday. She hanged herself using a washing line cord and was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.
According to a report issued by local security company, Reaction Unit South Africa, their team was called out to a residence in Verulam after receiving several frantic calls from residents seeking medical assistance.
Upon arrival, paramedics found the victim hanged from the ceiling rafters. According to the family, the nurse, who is based at the Wentworth Hospital, was last seen alive at 7am in the morning. The victim had just returned from Empangeni in KZN after attending the funeral of her ex-boyfriend, who is the father of her three children.
She was inconsolable after he also committed suicide by leaving a note. Reaction officers were handed a suicide note found by the deceased’s sister, who explained how her children should be cared for and how her funeral should be conducted.
