Man slits his throat in suicide attempt

A 32-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he attempted to end his life by slitting his throat and stabbing himself twice in the stomach in Verulam, earlier today.

The exact details surrounding the incident are unclear at this stage, however, according to Reaction Unit South Africa, their operations centre received a call from a resident in Hlasini requesting immediate medical assistance for an individual, who attempted to kill himself.

RUSA officers and medics were dispatched to the informal settlement in Everest Heights and upon arrival, found the man lying on the roadside. RUSA medics stabilised the seriously injured man before rushing him to a local hospital.

Residents in the area explained that when they went to the victim’s home, they found him lying on the floor bleeding excessively from his wounds. A kitchen knife, which was covered in blood, was found lying next to him. They then carried him to the roadside and called for medical assistance.
