RTI cop robbed and shot

Paramedics assist the injured victim.

A member of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) was critically wounded after he was shot during an armed robbery in Duffs Road, Durban earlier today. It is alleged that the officer was standing outside his patrol vehicle when two unknown men approached him. One of the men is reported to have drawn a firearm and demanded that the officer hand over his weapon.

It is alleged that the officer resisted and the suspect shot him. The second suspect is said to have robbed the victim’s colleague of his firearm before they both fled the scene on foot. According to Prem Balram of North Coast private security company, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), a passing motorist saw the incident unfold and drove a few kilometres where he flagged down a RUSA member and reported the incident.
